Principal’s Words

A warm welcome to Box Hill (HK) International Kindergarten & Pre-school (Tseung Kwan O Campus). It is with pleasure that I take on the role of Principal for Tseung Kwan O Campus and Head of Schools overseeing all three campuses. I believe with the past four years of experience at Box Hill, I can use my knowledge and skills to improve the provision we offer and help children learn through skilled teachers and a rich learning environment in Tseung Kwan O.

I originally hail from New York and came to Hong Kong in 1994. Starting in 1997 I entered the world of early years’ education in Hong Kong. I began my journey in a local kindergarten as a NET teacher and after a few years moved to an Anglo-Chinese and Japanese Kindergarten on Hong Kong Island. Throughout this period, I began my studies to attain qualifications and strongly believe in furthering my studies whenever possible.

During my time in the above kindergarten, I was privileged to have the opportunity to become a part owner/director and run the kindergarten and also establish an International section as well as registering new Pre-nursery classes. I also had the roles of Supervisor and Principal over the span of 20 years.

The experience of running the school operations alongside a Japanese and Chinese Principal has made me appreciate the potential children have regarding independence and self-care. I also saw the benefits of a learning through play curriculum as well as a more academic & holistic curriculum which is more widely known in Hong Kong. I believe to gain confidence children need to explore, attempt and at times fail and try again. Only with this resilience and perseverance do we grow and achieve.

The cornerstone of a good school is the direct relationship and communication we have with our parents. I believe honest conversations with understanding and collaboration is the key to help students benefit from their kindergarten experience. Working together and respecting each other’s perspectives is something we foster and encourage.

We also highly suggest joining our periodic Info Sessions or our Open Days held in September and May of each year. A warm welcome from Box Hill – Tseung Kwan O! My name is Jina Lee, the Assistant Principal of Box Hill (HK) International Kindergarten & Pre-school (Tseung Kwan O Campus). It is my honor to work with such an amazing team at our campus. As a passionate and dedicated early childhood educator, I have spent over 18 years fostering a love for learning in young children. My journey began in the classroom, where I created engaging and inclusive environments that nurtured curiosity and creativity. I have experience teaching all age groups of the early years, and I believe that every child deserves a strong foundation. I am committed to providing enriching experiences that promote holistic development.

I was born in Hong Kong and grew up in New Jersey, USA. I moved back to Hong Kong in 2007, when I entered the field of early childhood education as a class teacher in an Anglo-Chinese and Japanese kindergarten. In 2015, I transitioned into a Head Teacher role, where I had the privilege of supporting educational policies and practices on a broader scale. Throughout the years, I have obtained the relevant qualifications, including my PGDE in ECE and the Kindergarten Principal’s Certificate. My experience in early childhood education informs my leadership style, allowing me to advocate for innovative programs that support both teachers and students. In 2021, I transitioned to a play-based international kindergarten where I served as a Lead Teacher and later the Deputy Head of School of their largest campus, supporting over 15 classrooms. Before joining Box Hill, I served in a Montessori kindergarten where I held the roles of Assistant Head of School at the largest campus of their organization and then moved on to be the Senior Operations Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead of the organization, supporting more than 10 campuses, including both kindergartens and their primary school.

Throughout my career, I have focused on building strong relationships with families, colleagues, and the community. My approach emphasizes collaboration and open communication, ensuring that every child’s unique needs are met. I am excited to continue my journey in education, dedicated to empowering future generations and fostering a love for lifelong learning. We welcome parents to reach out to our leadership team with any questions you may have as we believe that home-school collaboration is important in a child’s learning journey, and communication is a key factor.
