From exploring diverse traditions to tasting authentic cuisines, our young learners embarked on an exciting international learning journey that fostered a deeper appreciation of different cultures. This event reflects our commitment to nurturing global citizens and making early childhood education a truly enriching adventure!

Week 1: A Global Adventure Begins – Sweden, Philippines, and England

Sweden – Ma On Shan Campus

The children at Ma On Shan kicked off International Culture Weeks with a Swedish adventure! They began by dining at our very own IKEA Bistro, enjoying delicious Swedish meatballs with gravy. The excitement continued with a virtual trip to an Ice Hotel, where they experienced the magical Northern Lights. To further explore Sweden, the children danced to a traditional Swedish tune and interacted with chilly sensory tubs. A fantastic start to our global journey! 🌍✨

Philippines – Fo Tan Campus

Our little explorers at Fo Tan embarked on their cultural adventure to the Philippines. They engaged in exciting hands-on activities and lively dramatic plays prepared by our dedicated teachers, immersing themselves in Filipino culture. From role-playing to creating their own cultural experiences, it was a fun-filled week that allowed our children to dive deep into the vibrant traditions of the Philippines. 🇵🇭🎭

England – Tseung Kwan O Campus

At Tseung Kwan O, the children took a virtual trip to England, starting with an imaginative plane ride and playing Landmark Bingo. They also got into the spirit of England with Maypole dancing and crafting their own royal crowns, immersing themselves in the culture of the British monarchy. A huge thank you to our parent volunteers for helping make this event extra special! 👑🇬🇧

Week 2: Cultural Delights – Singapore, Greece, and Vietnam

Singapore – Ma On Shan Campus

The children at Ma On Shan travelled to Singapore, where they explored the country’s culture through tasting kaya toast and Milo, popular local snacks. Our young chefs crafted their very own laksa bowls (toy versions, of course!), and tested their coordination skills with a game of Capteh. This was a hands-on, fun-filled week that helped our students connect with Singapore’s rich traditions and flavours. 🇸🇬🥢

Greece – Fo Tan Campus

At Fo Tan, the little travellers were treated to a taste of Greece, beginning with Greek yogurt, which was a hit among our young explorers! They delighted in its creamy texture and delightful flavour, gaining an appreciation for Greek cuisine and its cultural significance. What a wonderful way to immerse our children in a new culture! 🇬🇷🍽️

Vietnam – Tseung Kwan O Campus

The children at Tseung Kwan O explored the vibrant culture of Vietnam. They indulged in a delicious Pho tasting and then participated in the lively Bamboo Dance, an activity that helped them understand Vietnam’s traditional rhythms. They also got to experience the excitement of a basket boat ride and even tried fishing, offering an authentic taste of Vietnamese daily life. 🇻🇳🎣

Week 3: Cultural Wonders – France, Egypt, and Morocco

France – Ma On Shan Campus

The children at Ma On Shan explored the elegance and charm of French culture. They transformed into little bakers at a make-believe boulangerie, carefully folding paper croissants and madeleines. Taking inspiration from Paris Fashion Week, they also took to the runway in a stylish fashion show, showcasing their creativity through dress-up and performances. This immersive experience allowed them to discover France through food, art, and culture.

Egypt – Fo Tan Campus

At Fo Tan, the children embarked on an adventure to Egypt, uncovering ancient treasures through a thrilling Treasure Hunt. They also explored Egyptian history with a hands-on “Wrap the Mummy” activity, carefully crafting their own mummies using string and cardboard cutouts. The excitement continued with a vibrant Egyptian Dance Party, where they learned traditional dance moves. For our youngest learners, the journey took a delicious turn as they made sausage mummies, wrapping pastry strips around sausages to resemble the famous Egyptian figures.

Morocco – Tseung Kwan O Campus

The children at Tseung Kwan O took a cultural journey to Morocco, experiencing its rich traditions through music, movement, and food. They practised graceful belly dancing and imagined a camel ride through the Sahara Desert. To further immerse themselves, they tasted traditional Moroccan dishes, including couscous salad, pita bread, and hummus. This hands-on experience helped them engage with the unique flavours and vibrant traditions of Moroccan culture.

Week 4: A Global Finale – Nepal, Russia, and Finland

Nepal – Ma On Shan Campus

The children at Ma On Shan concluded their cultural journey with an exciting adventure to Nepal. They took on a Mount Everest-themed obstacle course, testing their strength and perseverance just like real mountaineers. Along the way, they explored Nepali music and dance by trying out traditional instruments and moving to rhythmic beats. To round off their experience, the children sampled Banana Bahi, a delicious Nepali treat, giving them a taste of local flavours and traditions.

Russia – Fo Tan Campus

At Fo Tan, the children embarked on a playful and creative trip to Russia. After “boarding” their plane, they jumped into a life-sized version of the classic Tetris game, stacking and arranging oversized blocks together. The cultural discovery continued with Russian nesting dolls, which sparked their curiosity and creativity. They observed, played with, and even designed their own versions of these iconic dolls, making it a rich hands-on cultural experience.

Finland – Tseung Kwan O Campus

Tseung Kwan O wrapped up International Culture Weeks with a visit to the snowy landscapes of Finland. After checking in at a make-believe airport and going through passport control, the children experienced winter fun with a game of ice hockey. They then stepped into the festive world of Santa’s Village and brought a touch of Finnish magic to campus. To finish their journey, the children created artwork inspired by the Northern Lights, capturing the beauty of Finland’s glowing skies.

Over the course of four exciting weeks, our young learners explored a rich variety of cultures through hands-on activities, music, food, art, and imaginative play. Each experience helped them build a deeper appreciation for the world around them, while nurturing curiosity, creativity, and a global mindset. International Culture Weeks has been a joyful celebration of diversity and discovery for every BoxHillian.
